Money
The currency of Vietnam is known as the Dong (abbreviated “d” or VND). Bank notes come in denominations of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, 100,000 and 500,000. The exchange rate ( as of December 2009) is approximately Dong 18.450 to one US dollar. Money of all kinds and nations: Britain, Australia, Euro, Canada, Hongkong, France, Switzerland, Singapore and travelers’ cheques can be exchanged at banks, hotels and authorized money-exchangers. It is advisable to carry US dollar bills in small denominations. Credit cards are widely accepted at the larger hotels and shops and in most tourist destinations and many banks can organize cash advances for
visa & master card, usually at a rate of 3% commission and payment. 24hr ATM’s are available at: ANZ bank, Vietcombank and most branches nation wide. There is no coins in Vietnam today. | |
